Things To Consider When Using WordPress as a CMS
As we apparently going to work on Wordbress bul sites in close future, i tought that you might find this article useful:
WordPress is first and foremost a blogging platform, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be used for other things as well. In fact, the development of WordPress have been such that I wouldn’t be surprised to see a non-blog focused fork soon, because the necessary functionality for most web sites on the admin side of things are already there.Things To Consider When Using WordPress as a CMS

Django
Two for the price of one post coming up...
1. Django (you may already be more than aware..."yawn") is an open source web app for creating database driven websites. It has some leaning towards journalism, specifically online news delivery.

2. The front of shop website has a ridiculously concise interface. Great application of colour palette, hierarchy of content and typography.

No comment?...
Often overlooked, the humble 'comment' list can house some serious discussion or (more than likely) serious pontification. Either way, it's valuable content and these examples go some way to show a current trend in 'designed' comment lists.
Some aren't great, but more importantly the examples represent consistency in-line with their respective sites.

Distributed Identity
The concept is simple. Most of us own several identities online (Facebook, Blog, Technorati, Amazon etc etc). They are all from the same, common source but each one will be specifically tailored to it's given purpose. We therefore operate a 'Distributed Identity'.
This concept can be expanded by looking at how these identities can be presented, navigated and aggregated.
Zoolit, for example, is a shareable Web page that lists all your personal sites. Great, but you could probably manage without it.
Marketing agency, Zeus Jones, puts a slightly different spin on aggregation with hot-links to specific, business related areas.
Further spinning and Paul Bradshaw cleverly uses a Google search results page to present his work. He has even managed to include a narrative to the page, albeit divisive.
Maximum spin now and the mild genius of Modernista! is an exercise in brevity. As their introduction alludes...
"Do not be alarmed.
You are viewing Modernista! through the eyes of the Web."
So, powerful and simple stuff. I am sure a company, with multiple brand branches, could find not a better model for spreading their delights on the web...

I was blind now I can see
Ian Tait over at the brilliant Crackunit.com has written a very articulate and long (in a good way) article about the concept of the 'next big thing'...
It is coming from the side of an advertising man, but, elements of his diatribe can be associated with the realm of any company creating content online.
The section about hiring Digital Natives really struck a chord. In essence, digital companies need to take note of their workforce and exploit/hire talents above and beyond their job titles.
Sometimes, the best ideas and solutions don't even get a chance because the wrong people are in a meeting room. The wrong people are driving strategies and the wrong people pulling the above together.
We need the best men, not the yes men.
With that in mind, that leads me to look at how that could happen.. but thats another story kids. It's past my bedtime
Get fully bent here
I also recommend you read the comments after the post (often a goldmine of further wisdom). The sort of people posting here are in the mix when it comes to the vanguard. I even used to work with a couple of them...

Don't get unstuck
"We're barely into the second decade of the the Net's development. Unlike the first ten years when corporations built the web, over the next decade the Internet will largely be created by the people for the people via online communities..."

Will IE8 "break the web"?
In a controversial move by Microsoft, Internet Explorer 8 is to switch off all of its new features by default. This includes improved rendering abilities for standards compliance.
Any developer who wishes to allow IE8 to render their site correctly (like Firefox, Safari & Opera already do by default) they will need to add a line or two of code to enable these features (version targeting).
The irony is having IE8 render correctly with its new features will eliminate the need for version targeting of browsers. Developers will need to version target IE8 in order to opt out of version targeting!
This is of course aimed to prevent the "breaking of the web" which refers to non savvy developers who have built their sites to work solely on the IE6 & IE7 platforms. Basically allowing lazy, overpaid developers to get away with a poor job.
