1. Django (you may already be more than aware..."yawn") is an open source web app for creating database driven websites. It has some leaning towards journalism, specifically online news delivery.
2. The front of shop website has a ridiculously concise interface. Great application of colour palette, hierarchy of content and typography.

Multimap has a smart way of integrating commercial banners without diminishing user experience. 
Interaction with the site modules refresh the Ad spots - not the entire page. Pretty slick interface too.
